After 42 months and 52,000 miles, the original battery gave up the ghost on our 2013 Ouback. Besides fluids, filters, and some self-induced damage (fender dent, blown tire), this is the first part that I’ve bought for it. New cars these days tend to be pretty worry-free for the first 60,000 miles across the board, but I’ve been seriously impressed with this guy and very satisfied with the purchase. I was hoping to track down a nice Optima, Deka, or OEM Johnson Controls battery, but it stranded my wife at 8:30 PM. So I ran to the nearest AutoZone and got a Duralast Gold. I’ve heard they aren’t great, but the Gold has a 5-year warranty, so hopefully I can forget about it for a few years.

We just bought a 2005 Jaguar with 136,000 miles and it had the original battery in it, date stamped and everything. And it was still perfectly functional save for a very tiny leak.
So three years seems premature to me.

Just keep an eye on those CV boots ;)
At 62,000 miles, three of ours essentially exploded.

South Texas heat murders batteries. We only got 2.5 out of a Fit that we bought new. This was a little earlier than expected, but it’s rare to get much more than 4 here.

Yep I’m expecting it! We actually bought an extended drivetrain warranty to 100k when we bought it so that’ll be covered if it does happen. That being said the Fit we had before the Outback had a CV go out at 70k, so it happens to other vehicles too.

Also ever since we stopped mining lead on north america, batteries havent lasted as long. My ranger had its battery replaced a week before I got it in 11/14. The old battery was in the bed; Date stamped 11/04. I dont expect to get 10 years out of this battery.

My ‘98 accord was in its original battery until last year...I’m still not sure how, but it was the original.
